Gary Hiebner on Aug 08, in Review 5 comments. Let me take you on my journey on how I came to the decision on this microphone, and how it performs.
I was looking for a good solution for microphone for my voice over work. The condenser microphone I was using was a bit sensitive. It was picking up quite a bit of ambient noise from outside my studio, such a trucks that would drive by and other loud external noises. So how could I alleviate this? After a bit of research a dynamic broadcast dynamic microphone seemed the way to go. I came across a couple of broadcast microphones that would fill the gap. Both are great in their own way, but unfortunately they were both slightly out of my price range.
This is a very good quality broadcast microphone with a frequency range of 75 Hz — 18, Hz, with a slight bump in the 10, Hz region.
So make sure you have a microphone stand that can carry this weight. This will handle the weight of the Procaster, plus the arm allows you to maneuver the mic around quite easily. Which is one of the reasons why it has become a standard for most radio broadcasters.
It provides a clear audio signal when you are moving around the microphone and not keeping a constant distance between you and the mic. The SM7B on the other hand uses its proximity effect to its advantage. Many vocalists will come in closer to the mic for a warmer effect and move away for more dynamics in their voice on the recording. There is a proximity effect, but not as strong as the SM7B.
Which works quite well for me, as I do move around a bit when doing voice overs, but the Procaster makes up for these movements by providing quite a constant clear audio level. So in theory with a broadcast dynamic microphone and its super cardoid pattern, the closer you get to the microphone, the less outside ambient noise that will be picked up. Rode suggest being no less the 2 inches away from the Procaster. I tested it out when I was between 2 and 4 inches away, and some of the outside ambient noises was introduced when I recorded at a further distance.
It was less sensitive than my condenser microphone, but still with a very good audio voice quality. I even tried recording some audio when a heavy storm was outside, and the audio was super clean with a very, very small indication the storm that was bashing the house outside. When reading scripts a pop filter can sometimes getting in the way, so not having to use a pop filter was really handy.
But be careful as it still picks up the strong plosive sounds. So technique is key here. This microphone also does require a bit of juice.Or buy a Podcaster from one of our recommended online retailers in Russia. A headphone output on the microphone body provides zero-latency monitoring, so the user can hear exactly what is being recorded, free of delay or echo. The Podcaster features an internal pop filter, designed to minimise plosives sounds that can overload the microphone capsule and distort the audio output.
The microphone is bus powered and features a status LED to indicate operation. The Podcaster is ideal for podcasting, vodcasting, YouTube videos, voice recognition software, corporate videos and any production application that requires a simple yet professional voice-over microphone.
It is also a convenient demo microphone for musicians and songwriters that prefer the convenience of a USB microphone but don't want to compromise sound quality. It can also be used as an iPad microphone for the Apple iPad in conjunction with the iPad Camera Connection Kit and a powered USB hub to provide high quality recording to various iPad audio applications such as Garageband.
The Podcaster includes a sturdy RM2 microphone ring mount. I felt no need to muck around with any EQ after the fact. The built-in pop-filter does a great job neutralizing plosives and I feel negates the need for any additional pop-filtering. I have a spare at the office and one that travels with me everywhere. This is without question the most important and useful tool in my audio kit, and I thank you for allowing me the freedom to spend time with my family as the days of having to dash into the booth at Seven or to rock into one of the affiliates studios when on holidays are gone.
Thank God! I fired up GarageBand I do have to admit that the ease of that transaction was not lost on me. Calibre is a free audio library for the blind with nearly members.

We did extensive trials on a number of mics. We chose yours for quality and ease of use. The 10 year guarantee gave us a lot of comfort too. There is absolutely nothing bad about this mic, it records very clear with no background noise.
Very nice quality with a little weight on it. I love the headphone jack. I like how easy it was to set up and how quickly I was using it. Originally I purchased the Blue Yeti Mic. The problem was that the Yeti was way to sensitive and would capture vibrations from my desk or the fans of my desktop. If you are an amateur podcaster with home studio this is probably the best mic for you. Well balanced and perfect for the use it was designed for. Quality is exceptional. I fired up my audio recorder and did a few test runs I've got roughly a dozen hours recored now and they're all going to be uploaded to the web soon - all sounding very professional!
I love this MIC! I tested it in my office and compared it to three other mics and this one is BY FAR the absolute best quality. I use it for all my audio now, even if I'm just doing something quick! The Podcaster is very good quality mic regardless of whether it's used in a studio setting or remote location.
Just plug it in and it's ready to use.Or buy a Procaster from one of our recommended online retailers in Russia. Featuring a tight polar pattern and tailored-for-voice frequency response, the Procaster is perfect for every application where a great sounding, robust microphone with superior ambient noise rejection is demanded.
The Procaster features an internal pop filter, designed to minimise plosives sounds that can overload the microphone capsule and distort the audio output. Its high output dynamic capsule and balanced low impedance output make it an ideal broadcast and voice over microphone. It works really well on vocals. I was very happy with the frequency range and quality of the audio recording on the microphone. With it rejecting a lot of outside noise it has really helped improve my voice over workflow.
I've personally tried the Shure SM7b and as great as that mic sounds, it did not really mesh well with my vocal style when doing heavier music. I was very happy with the way the Procaster handled all of the frequencies in my voice and it really cut through the mix which contained synths, heavy guitar, bass, and drums. Designed for broadcast, great for metal! I am sure that this mic will sound good in many applications.
As a saxophone mic this is one of the best I have ever tried. I have been recording for many years and have a few condenser mics. My problem is that I have a dry voice, I can sing on key and very well but I have never liked the sound of my vocals. It always seems very thin with no grit. I have always liked how radio announcers sounded and they always had the big dynamic mics, so I thought I would try one.
Enter the Procaster, I'm so glad that I got it. It gave me what I was missing. A little thickness, great sound at a fantastic value. I know that it's for voice-overs and radio but I found it to be great for my home studio and my vocal.
I have a deep voice and needed a flatter response mic than my Audio Technica at I do voice overs and screencasts of powerpoint presentations.
